Fluidscapes

Digital Media Design

My identity has been fluid, molded by the places I have been to. Growing up near the coastline contributed significantly to who I am, and this subconsciously built a complex relationship between water and me. Through this film, I want to explore the connotations of water and its parallels with my identity. This project is an interdisciplinary work, combining art with social science and interface physics. I looked into place identity, a concept in social science and urban planning concerning the significance of places for their inhabitants, and how these meanings contribute to individuals’ self-concepts. The videos of water droplets are shot with a high-speed camera and are extracted from my scientific experiments with interface physics. I combined all of the clips I filmed and the information I gained from my research into a 3D model which could be seen throughout the film, animated with Cinema 4D.
